CDW-G and Discovery Channel School Offer Schools Second Chance to Win a Wireless Lab

Sweepstakes Launched by Two Companies Committed to Educational Excellence

ORLANDO, Fla. - Jan. 23, 2004 - At today's Florida Educational Technology Conference, two companies with strong ties to the educational community – CDW Government, Inc. (CDW-G)and Discovery Channel School – announced their second "Win a Wireless Lab" sweepstakes, open to any employee at any K-12 school in the United States.

"The response to our first sweepstakes last year was so strong, with more than 100,000 entries representing roughly a quarter of all K-12 schools nationwide, that we decided to partner with Discovery Channel School again and provide schools with another opportunity to win technology for the classroom," said Chris Rother, vice president of education and state & local sales for CDW-G. "We realize that schools everywhere are being stretched between escalating requirements and tight budgets, so we know that winning this wireless mobile computer lab means a lot to the lucky school."

In conjunction with the sweepstakes, Discovery Channel School is offering a free Teacher Resource Kit for educators. This year's kit, "Keep it Safe: Security and Storage Solutions for Your Schools," will be mailed for free to 15,000 district technology specialists. The kit includes posters, classroom activities and lesson plans to teach students about secure passwords and procedures for protecting the network. Any school employee may download the Teacher Resource Guide and posters from the contest website.

"We want to provide teachers and students with the tools they need to be safe computer users. This includes keeping hackers and viruses out and ensuring students don't access inappropriate Internet content," said Paul Thomas, vice president and general manager of Discovery Channel School. "Security is a serious issue. At the same time students need freedom to conduct research on the Internet, schools must protect student data and other private information from unauthorized access. The 'Keep it Safe' kit provides useful information on keeping your secure network."

The sweepstakes runs from January 10 until May 15, 2004, and teachers, district administrators and school IT specialists are encouraged to enter by visiting discoveryschool.com/cdwg.

The grand prize is an IBM wireless computer lab valued at $40,000. The lab is a mobile cart with 20 notebook computers that enables teachers to roll the technology from one classroom to another. It comes with IBM Options and NETGEAR wireless products, on-site setup and training from CDW-G and Discovery Channel School.

In addition to the grand prize, CDW-G and Discovery Channel School will give away four additional levels of prizes including HP projectors, HP Inkjet printers, networking products from D-Link and a selection of curricula materials from the Discovery Channel School Library.

Last year's winners were Holy Family Catholic School in Davenport, Iowa, and Sidney Middle School in Sidney, Ohio.
