CDW-G and Sun Microsystems Speed Procurement and Delivery of IT Solutions to Federal Agencies

HERNDON, Va. - February 26, 2008 - CDW Government, Inc. (CDW-G), a wholly owned subsidiary of CDW Corporation and leading source of Information Technology (IT) solutions to governments and educators, announced today that it will offer technology solutions from Sun Microsystems to Federal agencies. The agreement, based upon CDW Corporation's long-standing relationship with Sun, will accelerate procurement, configuration and delivery of Sun-based solutions to the Federal market.

"From supporting the armed services, to delivering critical human services aid, to managing billions of budget dollars, the Federal IT enterprise is among one of the most complex computing environments in the world," said Andy Lausch, senior director of Federal sales for CDW-G. "Within this complex environment, CDW-G will work with Sun to address many of the Federal government's IT priorities, including data center consolidation, eco-friendly IT solutions and continuity of operations, among others."

As a result of the new agreement to extend the Sun/CDW-G relationship into the Federal market, agency IT professionals can now access Sun solutions through a broad array of government-wide and agency contract vehicles held by CDW-G, including National Institutes of Health Electronics Commodities Store III (ECS III) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration Solutions for Enterprise-wide Procurement (NASA SEWP).

Sun solutions available through CDW-G include:
  • CoolThreads servers
  • Blade servers
  • Entry-level servers
  • Mid-range servers
  • SunFire volume servers
  • StorageTek hardware and software
As an initial focus of the expanded partnership, CDW-G and Sun Federal will provide value-added solutions in the X64 server market, including solutions for the Linux, Windows and Open Source Solaris operating systems. For example, when considering data center optimization, Federal IT professionals can make one phone call and engage CDW-G account managers and technology specialists to design, specify and build a business case for a tailored Sun-based solution. CDW-G can then build, configure and deliver the solution precisely as outlined - all on existing Federal contract vehicles.

Supporting Federal agencies' needs for complex configuration and on-demand delivery, CDW-G's value-added services include asset tagging, imaging and configuration, large-scale staged delivery and emergency response inventory, as well as a custom extranet to manage and control procurement. To develop Sun solutions that meet their specific, mission-critical requirements, Federal agencies will be able to call on 19 Sun-certified experts from CDW-G's technology specialist team, in addition to the account managers and account executives Federal agencies already leverage today.

"Federal agency IT professionals need simple, fast access to technologies that improve service delivery, information sharing and security," said Bill Vass, president and chief operating officer of Sun Federal. "This agreement will provide Sun Federal customers with new contracting and support avenues to speed the implementation of Sun hardware, software and services."
