CDW-G To Provide Emergency Management Software to Federal Agencies
Wireless Software Allows for Secure Communications and Retrieval of Emergency Management Plans
Herndon, VA - July 29, 2004 - CDW Government, Inc. (CDW-G), the government and education subsidiary of CDW Corporation [Nasdaq: CDWC], today announced that it has secured a GSA contract for the purchase of wireless emergency management software created by Wallace Wireless, the leading provider of wireless software applications for crisis communications and incident management.
Through the GSA, CDW-G will provide federal agencies with secure, wireless emergency management/continuity of operations (COOP) software that transforms paper-based emergency response plans such as building blueprints, COOP manuals, emergency personnel contacts, and other related information into data that can be accessed securely using wireless devices. The software also allows for logged PIN-to-PIN communications in the event the normal operating environment is inaccessible. All data transmitted through the wireless devices is logged and can be viewed at a later date.
"A challenge the federal government faces is how to implement secure wireless communications across multiple agencies," said Max Peterson, vice president, federal sales for CDW-G. "Our partnership with Wallace Wireless enables us to exclusively provide powerful wireless COOP software to help the government meet that challenge. We're giving crisis management teams cutting-edge technology with this solution."
"We are very happy with our CDW-G relationship," said Rob Moffat, president of Wallace Wireless. "They provide a great channel to federal government clients who require a practical solution for Continuity of Operations and Emergency Management."
The software is currently designed to operate on the Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerry Wireless Handheld™ devices, the only wireless devices compliant with the FIPS 140-2 security mandate.
