Operation Homefront and CDW-G Present Computers to Soldiers and Families at Fort Bragg

Donated Computers Help Families Stay Connected with Soldiers Overseas

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - November 6, 2008 - Operation Homefront, in collaboration with CDW Government, Inc. (CDW-G), a wholly owned subsidiary of CDW Corporation and leading source of information technology (IT) solutions to governments, today will present more than 100 refurbished desktop computers to paratroopers and families from the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division (3rd Brigade) at Fort Bragg. CDW-G and Operation Homefront also equipped Fort Bragg's family Internet café with refurbished computers, making it possible for even more military families to stay connected with their soldiers deployed overseas.

While stationed overseas serving our country, regular correspondence from family members provides an invaluable benefit to service members during demanding assignments. However, in today's economically trying times, many families of junior enlisted soldiers are often unable to afford computers and must rely instead on conventional mail or costly, infrequent phone calls to stay in touch. Operation Homefront strives to support American soldiers deployed overseas by linking them more effectively with their families through e-mail and other tools enabling near-instant communication using computers donated by sponsors such as CDW-G.

"While many soldiers have e-mail access during overseas deployments, including in Iraq and Afghanistan, their families often lack access to dependable, cost-effective means of communication," said Amy Palmer, chief operating officer for Operation Homefront. "Without access to a PC, families and loved ones of service members must cope with the slow response of postal mail or the extremely high cost of long-distance telephone calls. However, with the help of CDW-G, for more than 100 of the junior enlisted families stationed at Fort Bragg, that reality has changed."

"The strength of our paratroopers comes from the strength of the families," said Col. Timothy McGuire, commander of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team. "This generous donation not only gives families the opportunity to communicate with their paratrooper, it provides them an additional gateway to information, services and programs available to them before, during and after their soldier's deployment. Knowing that their family is taken care of back home allows our paratroopers to focus on accomplishing their mission."

CDW-G worked with Operation Homefront to donate the PCs to the soldiers and families at Fort Bragg. Since its inception, Operation Homefront has delivered nearly 5,000 PCs to military families. Corporations interested in donating PCs should contact the Operation Homefront (www.operationhomefront.net) National Office. Individuals interested in donating PCs should contact their local chapter of Operation Homefront. A list of chapters is available here: www.operationhomefront.net/chapters.asp.

"Our enlisted servicemen and women and their families have given so much for our country," said Andy Lausch, CDW-G senior director of federal sales. "Through our partnership with Operation Homefront, we were able to put the ease and convenience of e-mail into the hands of junior enlisted servicemen and women. We are honored to be able to provide them with the opportunity to connect with their loved ones when they need it most."
