CDW Corporation Named to G.I. Jobs' Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers List
Recognized for Reservist Policies and Use of Social Media in Recruitment of Veterans
VERNON HILLS, Ill. – November 9, 2009 – CDW Corporation, a leading provider of technology solutions for business, government and education, announced today that G.I. Jobs has selected it as a Top 100 Military-Friendly Employer for 2009. Ranked at number XX on the list, this marks the second time the company has been recognized for its military recruitment practices and providing competitive benefits to active duty, reservist and veteran military men and women.
"Candidates with military backgrounds possess characteristics that CDW looks for in all its coworkers such as initiative, leadership and respect for partners and communities,"said John A. Edwardson, chairman and chief executive officer, CDW. "We are proud to offer military men and women a culture where they can continue to grow as leaders in both the company and the community."
CDW’s recruitment practices for military men and women include a combination of social networking, training and supplemental pay programs. These include:
- MyVetWork, LinkedIn, Facebook,Twitter – CDW actively participates in these social networks and others to reach veteran job candidates on a personal level.
- Military Sourcing and Recruitment Training – This program trains recruiters how to determine the best resources to source military talent. This includes participation in local career events, Transition Assistance Programs (TAP), affinity groups and associations with transitioning personnel and veterans for all branches of the armed services.
- Competitive Benefits – CDW bridges the income gap that exists when reservists are called to serve their country by paying the difference between military pay and the coworker’s average compensation during the six months or twelve months prior to the commencement of the leave, whichever is higher. This provides them with the comfort that their families and jobs will be taken care of even during their absence.
In addition to its recruiting programs, CDW is also actively involved in the community with military families. Through a partnership with Operation Homefront, CDW has provided over 1,000 laptops to many families of junior enlisted soldiers in the last four years with laptops to link them more effectively with their families through e-mail and other tools for near-instant communication. Military families that have received laptops have been based at Ft. Bragg, Ft. Campbell, Ft. Drum, Ft. Carson, and Ft. Bliss.
G.I. Jobs seventh annual list of the nation's Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers® was drawn from a sample of an estimated 5,000 companies (those with over $500 million annual revenues), and was created based on company criteria including the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, and company policies toward national guard and reserve service.
